About Meanwhile Housing

Overview

Meanwhile Housing turns empty residential buildings into safe, high-quality homes for people who need them most.

We unlock underutilised and vacant properties, often voids or homes awaiting redevelopment, and bring them back into use as temporary accommodation, helping local authorities meet emergency housing demand while supporting housing associations and landlords to protect and optimise their assets.

Our mission is simple: connect empty homes to families who need them most, because every day a home sits empty is a day too long.

By acting as a trusted bridge between housing associations, local authorities, and communities, we provide a fast, flexible, and fully managed solution that:

1) Reduces reliance on costly hotels and B&Bs

2) Delivers safe, stable, and geographically suitable placements

3) Keeps properties secure, warm, and well-maintained during regeneration or redevelopment

4) Cuts antisocial behaviour and neighbourhood blight linked to long-term vacancy

5) Supports councils to meet statutory duties with greater efficiency and transparency

Our model is designed around flexibility and collaboration. Properties can be deployed quickly, scaled up or down as demand changes, and returned in line with landlords’ long-term plans without adding pressure to existing housing teams.

Social value sits at the heart of everything we do. 50% of our profits are reinvested directly into the public sector through our charity, A Place Called Us.

Meanwhile Housing is a genuine win-win partnership... Unlocking hidden housing capacity, protecting public funding, and turning empty spaces into safe places.
